Economics alumna, Rebecca Weir, named a 2024 Farm Foundation Agricultural Scholar
The Farm Foundation recently recognized Rebecca Weir, MSUM Economics alumna, as one of its 2024 Agricultural Scholars. Twenty Agricultural Scholars were selected from graduate programs across the U.S. based on their potential to be emerging leaders in the fields of agricultural policy, commodity market analysis, agricultural finance, and applied economics. The Agricultural Scholars will participate in travel-study opportunities and engage with professionals from the USDA’s Economic Research Service, the Farm Foundation, and commodity trade associations. Additional information about the Agricultural Scholars program is available at: https://www.farmfoundation.org/programs-overview/agricultural-scholars/.
Weir was actively involved in undergraduate research at MSUM, conducting multiple economic analyses under the direction of Drs. Oscar Flores and T. J. Hansen. She presented “Factors Influencing the Decreasing Milk Consumption in the United States” at the 2019 Eastern Economic Association Conference in New York. Undergraduate Economic Review selected Weir’s Andrew B. Conteh Student Academic Conference research, “Market Trends in Food Consumption Expenditures Away from Home Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic,” for publication in 2020. Currently, Weir is completing a Ph.D. in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities where she was recently named a CHS fellowship recipient.
