Abby Moen, MSUM student, presents new measurements of period change in a variable star at the Annual Meeting of the AAVSO

Abby Moen, a student in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, gave a talk at the 112th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Variable Star Observers, held Nov 2-4 in Boston, MA. Her presentation “Period change updates for δ Scuti variable DY Her,” discussed changes in the pulsation period of the variable star DY Her. She combined measurements taken at MSUM in June 2023 with observations submitted over the last 20 years by AAVSO volunteers, and measurements of period change drawn from the relevant literature, to conclude that the rate of change of in the period has been steady for several decades.
