Inforum 10/30/23: “MSUM kicks off $23 million renovation of iconic Weld Hall”

A symbolic groundbreaking with shiny gold shovels was held to mark the start of a long-awaited renovation of the oldest building at Minnesota State University Moorhead.

University and community leaders, legislators and others gathered in front of Weld Hall, the most iconic building on campus.

With a promise of a short ceremony in the chilly late fall temperatures, they scooped piles of sand brought in for the occasion, shouting “Go Dragons!”

President Tim Downs, who began his new job in July, told the crowd the project isn’t just for MSUM but for the entire community.

“A lot of great things are going to happen in this building as it’s renovated. It’s just going to be outstanding,” Downs said.
