Erik Gooding, Professor, Anthropology & Earth Sciences Department, will lead this Lunch & Learn which explores the concept of Land Acknowledgement Statements in Higher Education. Their origins, initial intent, and various forms will be discussed and contextualized, followed by an explication of the current relationships between Indigenous communities and scholars, academic organizations, and institutions of higher education, in order to understand the present-day contrasting viewpoint.
