Be a penguin on ice and snow

Winter is here again and so is the snow and ice, which brings the need to be extra careful to reduce slip and fall injuries! Unfortunately, this winter weather can cause our sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots to be extremely icy and full of snow. As the University works to ensure sidewalks and building entrances are accessible, please be on the lookout for any slippery conditions and report them to the Physical Plant (218-477-2662) so they can be taken care of.

As a reminder, please use extra caution when walking around campus and give yourself plenty of time, use designated crosswalks, park where snow has already been cleared, utilize hand railings, and make sure to avoid distractions such as reading, talking or texting on cell phones.

We want to make sure that we have a safe and injury-free winter season. However, if an accident does happen, please make sure to utilize the following resources:

  • In the event of an emergency, contact 911.
  • Employees who experience an injury need to report the incident to Public Safety (218-477-2449), their supervisor, and Human Resources (218-477-2157) as soon as possible.
  • Non-employees (students, guests, vendors, etc.) who experience an injury on campus need to report the incident to Public Safety (218-477-2449) as soon as possible.

Please be careful and “be a penguin on ice and snow”!
