Planetarium Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Special Events

Makes Progress on Laser Funding Goal

The MSUM Planetarium is celebrating its storied past with a variety of exciting community events in October. Upcoming events include:

  • 50 years of Planetariums and Pink Floyd: Laser Dark Side of the Moon | Oct. 7 & 21
  • Homecoming LaserFest Feat. DJ 1PrettyRicky | Oct. 8
  • Free Public Talk “Looking back – the start of the Moorhead Planetarium and Looking Forward – a Near-Term Settlement on the Moon” | Oct. 28
  • 50th Anniversary Celebration | Oct. 29

These events are free for MSUM students. Members of the public are invited to purchase tickets.

As the MSUM Planetarium celebrates and reflects its first half-century, it is also planning for the future. In conjunction with the 50th anniversary, a fundraising goal of $50,000 to help purchase a modern laser light system has been set. Community members interested in helping ensure the Planetarium’s continued success are encouraged to donate to the cause both in advance of and during MSUM Giving Day.

“With a gift to the MSUM Planetarium, anyone can help support community enrichment by bringing the next generation of education to all,” says Planetarium Director Dr. Sara Schultz.

To date, $12,500 has been donated to the laser upgrade fund. Visit mnstate.edu/planetarium for a complete list of events.
