Dr. Peter Sherman joins MSUM as dean of the  College of Business, Analytics & Communication

Dr. Peter Sherman has joined MSUM as the dean of the College of Business, Analytics & Communication. In this role he will provide collaborative leadership and direction for the College’s academic programs while building strong partnerships with employers and community organizations.  

Sherman will oversee a college with nearly 1,300 declared majors in six academic departments. Business administration is one of the college’s largest majors.  

Before joining MSUM, Sherman was dean of the Western Colorado University School of Business, where he helped create and served as the founding director of the first-of-its-kind Outdoor Industry MBA. The program has 50+ students and generates over $1 million a year. In addition, he was a key fundraiser at Western, increasing funds at the foundation from $3.6 million to over $8 million. Besides the MBA program, he helped develop minors/emphases in finance, innovation, creativity & entrepreneurship, professional sales, business law, energy management, and business analytics.  

Sherman earned his Ph.D. in strategic management from the University of Nebraska, an MBA from Creighton University, and a B.A. in economics from the University of Kansas. He has served twice as the interim dean of the Schroeder Family School of Business at the University of Evansville and for three years as the school’s associate dean. Before joining academia, Sherman worked in the investment field.   

Dr. Sherman and his wife, Kim, reside in Fargo. They have three adult children.
