Seminar Friday: Careers with Physics — Relational AI

Join us for the Physics and Astronomy department seminar Friday, Feb 25 at 3PM for a talk by Mike Olson about his career and his current role as a Partner at Relational AI.

Mike graduated in 2004 with a Physics and Mathematics B.S. from NDSU and was heavily involved in the Physics and Astronomy Department at MSUM. Mike took several physics classes via Tri-College, taught in the planetarium, and conducted light-curve research at the MSUM observatory. He went on to obtain a MS degree in Industrial Mathematics from Michigan State and has held leadership and consulting positions within the financial and retail industries

Summary: A Physics degree is fantastic preparation for industrial roles as Analysts, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists. Fundamentally, graduates are strongly motivated to understand the “why” behind observed behavior and spend four years developing the mathematical framework and rigor necessary to do so. This talk reflects on experience gained at MSUM and provides an overview of different types of industrial positions within reach of those with physics backgrounds; questions and discussion are encouraged.
