For Student Orgs – How you can stay active this spring

We know that right now is a confusing time, especially for your student org. You likely had events, meetings or fundraisers planned for this semester that had to be canceled or postponed. Even though we can’t meet in person, we want to share ideas for your student org to do during this time.

Meetings over Zoom

When in person meetings are off the table, Zoom is a great option. You can figure out how to do Zoom by finding articles online like this or looking at their frequently asked questions. To make your Zoom meetings a little more fun, have a competition of who can find the funniest Zoom background. If you want to go MSUM themed, you can find Zoom background templates here. Try to find little ways to keep your members engaged, and we’re sure you’ll end the semester strong.

Movie Nights

If you want a chance to connect with your org members over a movie or tv show on Netflix, you can download the Netflix Party Google Chrome extension. It comes with a chatroom so you can share your reactions. Bonus points if you can find a show or movie that relates to your student org in some way!

Board Game Tournaments

If you’re looking for something fun to do, host some board game tournaments. Pogo is just one example of a website with board games you can play virtually with other people. It’s a perfect option for when your final parties come around.

Have speakers present through Zoom

As mentioned above, Zoom is an amazing resource right now. Just because you can’t have people visit campus right now doesn’t mean that you can’t still have them present. We recommend emailing any presenters you had planned and asking them if they are comfortable with a Zoom presentation. Most of them will be pretty comfortable with Zoom at this point, so it doesn’t hurt to try!

Game show? Yes please!

Create a Kahoot for your student org. You can personalize your questions around MSUM, your org, or even something completely random! If you’re feeling like it, award the winner with a prize. You can even have all your members create a Kahoot if you’re looking for a variety or another way to get your members involved.
