5 tips to make Admitted Student Day great

Now that you’ve been admitted to MSUM it’s time to begin planning your first year as a Dragon! That’s why we hold Admitted Student Day events each year. Even if you’re not 100% sure about joining us in the fall, we want you to come to the event – you might find just the thing that leads you to accept your admission and officially join the Dragon Family.

Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your Admitted Student Day visit.

Prepare for the day

You will be doing some walking around outside, so dress for the weather. Our campus is small and easy to navigate, but it gets cold in the winter! You don’t need to bring anything special with you – we’ll provide everything you need, including a great lunch at Kise Commons and a few fun souvenirs.

Brainstorm your burning questions on the drive over

During this event you’ll have many opportunities to speak with students and faculty about the nitty-gritty details of life at MSUM. We may have covered the basics for you, but if you have specific questions about academic support, financial aid, veteran’s services, career prep, or anything else, now is a great time to ask! We want you to be as informed as possible.

Connect with your roommate

If you’ve already completed your housing application you can start looking for your roommate now! Get matched, trade contact info, and plan your meet up. Maybe you can connect at Admitted Student Day and tour the residence halls as a team. Did you know MSUM is one of the only schools that allows first year students to pick their residence hall AND which room they want? You could also coordinate your schedules for attending orientation in the summer so you’ll get to experience advising and registration together.

Start to get a feel of your daily routine

Living on campus at MSUM is amazing. During the campus tour you’ll see great amenities like the Wellness Center, Kise Commons dining, free laundry in the residence halls, and (my personal favorite) Caribou Coffee. But how will that tie into your class schedule? Ask your tour guide or any Dragon Ambassador about where you can expect most of your classes to be located. Get a feeling for the distance and ask if they know of any shortcuts to take when the weather gets very, very Minnnesota-ly.

Pick up some Dragon swag

Are you ready to show your Dragon Pride? Head over to the bookstore on campus and use the 20% off coupon we provide in your Admitted Student Day folder to pick up some official Dragon gear. And don’t forget, if mom or dad are alumni, they’re eligible for special discounts, too!

We hope we’ll be seeing you this Admitted Student Day! Welcome to the Dragon Family!
