April 10-13 | 7:30 p.m. | Hansen Theatre
MSUM’s University Theatre Series opens a musical spoof about marijuana on Wednesday, April 10, on the Hansen Theatre stage. The show repeats the next three nights. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m.
Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a downward spiral filled with jazz music, sex and violence. The musical numbers range from big Broadway-style showstoppers to swing tunes like “Down at the Ol’ Five and Dime” and the Vegas-style “Listen to Jesus, Jimmy,” featuring Jesus leading a chorus of showgirl angels.
A panel discussion with David Owen, Chairman of Legalize ND, and Andre Thom, Former Director of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs at Leafline Labstakes, follows each performance.
