Campus collects 574 pounds of plastic bags

Exceeds 500 pound recycling competition goal

Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Sustainable Students Association (SSA) exceeded its collection goal during a six-month plastic bag recycling competition.

In September, SSA launched its six-month plastic bag recycling competition, asking MSUM and community members to bring grocery bags and other plastic materials to collection bins on campus, with a goal of collecting 500 pounds—or approximately 40,500 plastic bags.

The student group surpassed the goal by nearly 15 percent, collecting a total of 574 pounds of plastic in six months. In addition to helping save the environment, the university will receive a free bench made of recycled plastic as a reward.
