The Math Seminar continues on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. in BR 268, when Professor Sara Sohjem will speak on Tableaux, Sign Matrices and Polytopes. The abstract is below.
We will explore some of the base objects that we love to count in Combinatorics. Tableau come in many forms, we will look at some of them and how to count them. We will then learn how to turn tableau into a sign matrix! This is a special type of matrix with some interesting properties – no matrix multiplication necessary! Then we will look at polytopes which are polygons in higher dimensions. Then we can talk about how all three objects are related. This will be a fun and interactive talk that is available for any level of mathematical student.
