Community Outreach Receives $7,500 Grant from FM Area Foundation

For K-12 Summer Camp Scholarships

MSUM  has received a $7,500 grant from the FM Area Foundation to support student scholarships for the MSUM Community Outreach K-12 Summer Camps.

The grant will fund partial and full need-based scholarships for students in K-12 attending any of the summer camps offered by MSUM Community Outreach. Camps offered this summer include: College for Kids & Teens (ages 6-18), Multimedia Journalism Camp (ages 13-18), Coding Camp (ages 13-18) and SCRUBS, a residential camp for students entering grades 9 through 12.

College for Kids & Teens is a summer camp program for students K-12. Expert instructors teach classes that encourage exploration, adventure and creativity while cultivating young people’s understanding and appreciation for a variety of topics. The three camps for High School age students are an opportunity for fun, learning and career exploration. These camps were all new in 2016 and include Multimedia Journalism Camp, Coding Camp and SCRUBS Camp (in partnership with Healthforce Minnesota). Each camp has a specific focus and allows student in high school to learn from local professionals and MSUM faculty in each field.

“I am so grateful that Community Outreach was granted funds from the FM Area Foundation. With their support we are able to help fulfill one of our goals of building a better community for all by creating and offering programs for local youth,” said Shireen Alemadi, assistant director for Community Outreach & Engagement.
