New Rivers Press receives grant to publish ‘The Way She Told Her Story’

New Rivers Press received a grant from the Lake Regions Art Council to publish “The Way She Told Her Story” by Minnesota author Diane Jarvenpa.

“The Way She Told Her Story” is a collection of poems that illuminates the lives of Finnish-American immigrants, especially women. Largely set in Finland and Minnesota, the collection provides another square in the quilt of this region’s literary and ethnic history. Jarvenpa describes her collection as a way to explore her heritage, how and why it haunts her, and its bittersweet nature. “The Way She Told Her Story” will be published this November.

New Rivers Press is one of the only teaching presses in the country. Located here on campus, it offers students the unique opportunity to gain real-life experience during college, as well as complete a degree or certificate in publishing.
