2017 Tri-College NEW Leadership Development Institute

Do you know a woman who cares deeply about serving her community and deserves the opportunity to have her leadership interest recognized, mentored, and inspired? If so, please encourage her to apply to attend the 2017 Tri-College NEW (National Education for Women’s) Leadership Development Institute, to be held May 17-21, 2017 at Minnesota State University Moorhead. The intensive five-day residential program is designed to provide leadership training, inspiration, and support for women in the upper Midwest who do not have extensive leadership experience. There is particular emphasis on recruiting women from groups that have typically been underrepresented voices in the political process.

Applications will be accepted until March 17, 2017.

Participants will attend workshops on:

  • running for office
  • public speaking
  • fundraising and grant writing
  • public policy advocacy
  • working with the traditional and new media
  • building community partnerships
  • conflict resolution

Participants work closely with women leaders, including:

  • state and local elected officials
  • leaders in tribal government
  • grassroots activists
  • nonprofit leaders

We seek applicants with interest in politics, public service, or community service who desire to develop their leadership skills.

Approximately 40 college and community women will be accepted. Thanks to the generosity of donors, there is no cost to participate. Scholarships are available for some individuals with restricted incomes to assist with travel and/or childcare expenses incurred during the five-day institute.

Participants will have the option of registering for a three-credit undergraduate course in Women’s Studies (WS 499), Sociology (SOC 499), or Social Work (SW 499). Those who choose to register for course credit will have to pay course registration expenses to Minnesota State University Moorhead.
