Students doing service over spring break

College students spend time serving in communities across the country

Not all college students will be hitting the beach over their spring break. Over 1,900 college students will serve communities across the country on a Pay it Forward tour over Spring Break this year through a non-profit organization called Student Today Leaders Forever (STLF). This spring break, the Minnesota State University Moorhead STLF group will be heading down to Nashville, Tennessee.

The Pay it Forward tour is a nine-day service-based spring break trip that colleges all across the United States will take part in. College students plan, lead and unite 40 participants on each bus, taking them from city to city and engaging in community service projects along the way. Collectively over spring break, students will serve over 45,000 hours of volunteering in 250 communities.

“This set of Pay it Forward tours represents a growing number of youth committed to leadership, service, and a commitment to action,” Irene Fernando, STLF’s Director of Marketing and Human Resources, said. “I’m so excited for the future, knowing that the next generation is full of optimism and service.”

Each college tour makes five individual stops before meeting up with other tours in a celebration city. We will be starting our trip off in Des Moines, Iowa;  Jacksonville, Illinois; St. Louis, Missouri; Cave City, Kentucky; Santa Claus, Indiana; and then ending our trip in Nashville, Tennessee. Our trip will start on Friday, March 3, and we will return to MSUM on Saturday, March 11.

Students Today Leaders Forever is a Minneapolis-based nonprofit that engages young people in servant leadership. Cited by Time as the “Number Two Way to Serve America,” STLF’s Pay it Forward tours have reached hundreds of cities, engaged thousands of young people, and performed thousands of hours of service. With a mission to reveal leadership through service, relationships and action, STLF aims to energize generations of student leaders by providing meaningful experiences. It is a great way to see the country, make new friends, and make a difference in the communities we serve. Come on this once in lifetime experience.
