Dragon Wrestling hosts Northern State tonight for Alumni and Senior Night

The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will compete in its final home dual of the regular season on Friday night when they host the No. 14 Northern State Wolves. The dual begins at 7 p.m. at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.

Friday’s match will be the final home match for four Dragon seniors. Nader Abdullatif, Blake Bosch, Dan Murakami, and Isaac Novacek will be the four Dragons honored before the match. Also happening will be the annual Alumni celebration, as well as a high school dual between Moorhead High and Fargo Davies. 

The last time that the Dragons took the mat was a 38-3 loss to No. 1 St. Cloud State on Jan. 19. In that match, senior Blake Bosch picked up the only win, a 3-2 decision over Mike Rhone at 133 pounds. Sophomores Dylan Connell and Adam Blees both battled in their matches, but neither was able to pull out a win.

The Dragons are led by senior Blake Bosch, who has a 21-1 record on the season. Senior Nader Abdullatif has a 14-8 record, while Adam Blees has a 12-7 record on the season. Bosch also enters the match as the only Dragon who is ranked nationally, entering the match at No. 3 in the latest D2Wrestle.com poll.

The Dragons are ranked eighth in the latest Super Region Three poll done by D2Wrestle.com. Bosch maintained his No. 1 ranking at 133 pounds, while Kristian Vazquez moved up to No. 5. Blees is ranked third in the region at 174 pounds, while Abdullatif is ranked eighth.

Kris Nelson is in his eighth season as MSUM’s head coach.

Road Warriors

This is the final home dual of the regular season for the Dragons, as the final weeks of the season will see them wrestle four road duals before returning home to host the Super Region Three tournament on Feb. 24-25. The Dragons will make trips to Bismarck, Augustana, Southwest Minnesota State, and Minot State in the month of February.

About the Wolves

Northern State enters the match ranked No. 14 in the nation in the latest D2Wrestle.com coaches poll. They are led by junior Sean Havlovic, who is ranked seventh in the nation at 165 pounds. Regionally, they are ranked seventh, with five wrestlers ranked, including two who are ranked first.

The Wolves were last in action on Saturday, when they lost a 43-3 dual to Upper Iowa. Senior Joe Gomez picked up the only win for the Wolves, a 3-2 decision at 197 pounds. They also lost to St. Cloud State, a 41-3 dual loss, where again Gomez picked up the only win for Northern, a 3-2 overtime decision.
