Summer Cinema Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Summer Cinema Series celebrates its 40th season with two silent comedy features and two evenings of silent comedy shorts! 

Summer Cinema Poster 2016-2 (2)We begin our season on July 11 with Buster Keaton’s comedy-western “Go West.” When Buster decides to leave New York and try his luck as a cowboy, he ends up fighting a local cattle rancher. Lance Johnson will provide the live organ score.

On July 18 we offer a selection of some of Charlie Chaplin’s funniest comedy shorts! Lance Johnson will again provide a live organ score for these shorts.

Harold Lloyd’s classic comedy feature “Safety Last” will screen on July 25, a film that showcases some of Lloyd’s most daring stunts. Dave Knudtson will be providing the organ score for this film.

Closing the series on Monday, August 1, is a selection of Laurel & Hardy shorts guaranteed to have you shrieking with laughter! Dave Knudtson will be playing the organ for these films. After this final show, ice cream sundaes will be served in the hallway.

All shows are in Weld Hall on the MSUM campus and start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $4 per screening and are available on-line at mnstate.edu/tickets, through the MSUM Box Office (218-447-2271) or at the door. Pre-show organ music performed by organist Ryan Hardy begins at 7:15 p.m.
