Five candidates for the position of Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs have been selected.

Candidate interviews started today, April 4.

Candidate Douglas Wermedal’s public forum will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 5th in CMU 101.

Douglas R.Wermedal, Ph.D. currently serves South Dakota State University as Interim Vice President for Student Affairs a position he has held since August 2014.  Dr. Wermedal holds a B.S. degree from SDSU in agricultural journalism, an M.S. in education from Eastern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in sociology, also from SDSU.  He has advanced in the ranks of SDSU Student Affairs leadership since joining the division in 1998. He previously worked in residential life at Emporia State University in Kansas, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, the University of North Dakota and Eastern Illinois University. As a first-generation college student himself, Dr. Wermedal believes deeply in the importance of education as an engine of social and individual change.  He has been elected to the presidency of his K-12 school board six times in his nine years of service to this board.

Candidate Laura Bayless’s public forum will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7th in CMU 101.

Dr. Laura A. Bayless is currently the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (chief student affairs officer) at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She previously served as the interim vice president for Student Life at Caldwell University in Caldwell, N.J.; vice president of Student Affairs at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and dean of students and assistant dean for Student Affairs at Longwood University in Virginia. Bayless earned her BA in speech communications/mass media from Denison University; MS in college student personnel services at Miami University of Ohio, and a PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech. Bayless serves on the Governing Board of ACPA: College Student Educators International. She has been honored as a Diamond Honoree by the ACPA Foundation, the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Higher Education Program at Virginia Tech, and the Award for Excellent Practice-Senior Level, Commission for Administrative Leadership, in addition to being recognized by students on several campuses. She is a frequent presenter, consultant, and podcaster.

 

The other three candidates are Michael Sachs, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at East Stroudsburg of the University of Pennsylvania, Brenda Amenson-Hill, Dean of Students at The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Edgar Berry, former Vice President for Student Affairs at Texas College.
