Dr. Phyllis May-Machunda Awarded Smithsonian Fellowship

Dr. Phyllis May-Machunda has been awarded a Smithsonian Senior Postdoctoral Fellowship to work at the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage in Washington, D.C.

Dr. May-Machunda will spend a portion of her 2016-17 sabbatical at the Center researching the Kate Rinzler fieldwork on African American children’s play in Washington, D.C. Rinzler, whose story has not been told, facilitated the exhibition of the largest presentation of children’s folklore in U.S. history at the Bicentennial Festivals of American Folklife.
