Women’s rugby team advances to nationals

Rugby copyCongratulations to MSUM’s Women’s Rugby team! After being awarded the first seed following an undefeated regular season, the women faced off against fourth seeded University of Wisconsin-Platteville. With a win of 89-5, they advanced to the Regional Championship game against Wayne State College, also undefeated. Wayne defeated the third seed, Gustavus Adolphus College 66-10. MSUM and Wayne’s bitter rivalry goes back years, with Wayne eliminating MSUM in 2013 and MSUM eliminating them last year in 2014.

The championship game kicked off on Wayne’s home field on, November 15. At the end of the first half, MSUM kept Wayne from scoring with a score of 10-0. Unfortunately for Wayne, MSUM’s first half didn’t end up being their best as they finished the game with a score of 36-12. The women ended Wayne’s season and advanced to the National Championship, which will be held in Charlotte, N.C., Dec. 5-6. Best of luck to our women’s rugby team, and congratulations on making it back to the National Championship!
