Jazz great Ruben Alvarez to perform in Weld Hall tonight

Jazz great Ruben Alvarez comes to the MSUM campus to perform and work with students for several days, starting Friday. Alvarez is a Chicago-based Latin percussionist, drum set artist, and educator. He performs with Fuego Tropical Friday, Nov. 6, in the Comstock Memorial Union Ballroom. Fuego Tropical is a steel drums and salsa group led by Dr. Kenyon Williams, Music. The performance will include The Salsa Dance Club of Fargo-Moorhead and Dr. Tom Strait, Music, as special guests. A free salsa dancing lesson takes place at 7 p.m., preceding the 7:30 p.m. performance. Alvarez also performs in Glasrud Auditorium in Weld Hall with the MSUM Jazz Ensemble Monday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m., led by Dr. Tom Strait, Music.
