Interim leadership announced for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs

MSUM President Anne Blackhurst has named Doug Peters, Director of Athletics, to serve as Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. Chad Markuson, Associate Athletic Director, will assume additional responsibilities during Peters’ interim appointment.

“The university will benefit greatly from Doug’s leadership skills,” said Blackhurst. “He has served on the Academic Affairs Council and the enrollment management and scholarship committees. Of course, there are also the natural partnerships with admissions and financial aid because of the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. We have exceptional departmental leaders within Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. What they need most is a facilitator and advocate. Doug is that person.”

Blackhurst also announced interim administrative office realignments that will be reviewed during the coming months.  As Interim Vice President, Peters will oversee Admissions, Financial Aid, First-Year Programs, Housing and Residential Life, Health and Wellness, Intramurals, the Comstock Memorial Union, and the Career Development Center.  The offices of International Student Services, the Academic Support Center, and Disability Services will report to Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Joseph Bessie.  Finally, the Office of Student Conduct and Resolution will report to Donna Brown, Chief Diversity Officer.

A search for permanent leadership in Enrollment/Student Affairs is in its early stage with a search chair and committee to be named as soon as possible.

“Enrollment, both the recruitment of new students and the retention of current students, is critically important right now,” said Blackhurst.  “We are all a part of the enrollment and retention team.”
