Course description: The only nuclear weapons ever used in war were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. After pre-trip preparatory meetings to lay scientific, historical, and cultural foundations, the class will travel to Hiroshima, Japan during Spring Break 2016. The class will visit the Peace Park and Peace Museum. Talks by scholars from Hiroshima University on peace studies topics, and others, will be presented. The rich culture of Japan will also be discussed through visits to historical and cultural sites, such as Hiroshima Castle, and the island of Miyajima.
