Clear as a Bell: Seeing how the Bell-Curve Arises in Nature

MSUM Physics & Astronomy Seminar Series Presents:
Clear as a Bell: Seeing how the Bell-Curve Arises in Nature
Friday, September 25 | 3:30 pm | HA 324

The bell curve, or Gaussian distribution, shows up in many interesting, practical situations. It arises when measurements are independent, and measurement variations are small and random. Would you like to see an interesting example of this? Come to the presentation! You will analyze electrical interference using computers equipped with LabVIEW, the programming language used to interface a computer to an experiment. We will walk through how to write a short program that measures the interference and makes a histogram of the result. No programming experience necessary!
(Note: Seminar meets in HA 324 instead of H A325)
