University Writing Support Center Needs Tutors

Do you enjoy writing? Do you plan to enter a teaching profession or are you thinking about going to graduate school? Are you a good writer who enjoys helping others with their writing? If the answer to any of these questions is “Yes,” please consider tutoring in the University Writing Support Center. The Center will open for clients around midterm; this will give new writing consultants the opportunity to learn about conference and one-on-one tutoring strategies before they begin working with clients. Writing consultants will also both observe and conduct tutoring sessions. New consultants will be paid during their training period. Your schedule can be fairly flexible.

One-on-one tutoring is especially relevant for prospective educators. It could also be very valuable if you intend to go on to graduate school and would like to apply for a teaching assistantship. While English majors are encouraged to apply for a tutoring position, we hope effective writers from other majors will also apply. That’s because the University Writing Support Center will work with students from a very diverse cross-section of the university and it is great if our writing consultants come from similarly diverse fields and disciplines. The University Writing Support Center will need writing consultants starting immediately, and then certainly into the spring semester and beyond. The pay is competitive and you’ll be tutoring in a remodeled space in Lommen Hall. If you have questions or want to learn more, please contact Dr. McCord at 5860 or mccordm@mnstate.edu.
