Minnesota State University Moorhead Receives $1.5 Million Gift
An anonymous donor is giving Minnesota State University Moorhead a gift of $1.5 million to be endowed for scholarships in the College of Business and Innovation. The scholarships will be awarded to junior- and senior-level students who are selected by the scholarship committee based on academic achievement and financial need.
The anonymous donor, who graduated from Moorhead State in the 1970s, said, “I just wanted to do something to help kids.”
“The endowment is significant and will make a lasting impact for generations to come,” said MSUM President Anne Blackhurst. “Our alumni and the business community are seeing the great things we are doing at the university, and it’s an honor to be so recognized with this extremely generous gift by a donor who wants no fanfare whatsoever. This exemplifies our core values of grit, humility and heart.”
“This generous gift will help ease the financial burdens on our students and allow them to immerse themselves in the college experience without worrying so much about money or student loans,” said Dean Marsha Weber, College of Business and Innovation.
“This is a tremendous gift for MSUM. Our purpose as a university is to transform the world by transforming lives,” said Laura Huth, MSUM Alumni Foundation vice president. “This gift is a combination of a current gift and a planned estate gift. It provides an endowment, with annual earnings supporting student scholarships into perpetuity. In the future more funding will be added to this endowment as a result of the donor’s estate planning.”
