SHIFTS Opening Reception & Artist Talk

Thursday, December 4 from 4 to 6pm, Artist Talk at 5pm

The School of Visual Arts at Minnesota State University Moorhead invites the public to the reception for SHIFTS, an exhibition by visiting artists David Emitt Adams & Ellie Richards, on Thursday, December 4 from 4 to 6pm. SHIFTS will be on view at the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Gallery until Thursday December 18.

SHIFTS is an exhibition that pairs the work of artists David Emitt Adams and Ellie Richards with a focus on creating form as a means to instigate change. Works by the two artists demonstrate the process of freely shaping new ideas through iteration and intuitive response. The resulting series of work creates a community of objects and images whose character is defined by its existence within a larger group. These works were motivated and guided with the use of play as a method of investigation for finding new directions among familiar processes and patterns of thinking.

David, primarily a photographer using wet plate collodion processes and Ellie, a sculptor using wood as her primary medium both received an MFA from Arizona State University. Each artist is grounded in traditional processes and techniques for making work while showing no apprehension in applying these traditions in not-so-traditional ways to access new formal and conceptual territory. SHIFTS is an exhibit of the evidence collected from two artists moving in new directions, creating a conversation through form.

Opening reception: Thursday, December 4, 4 – 6 p.m.
Artist talk in the gallery: Thursday, December 4, 5 p.m.
Gallery Hours are Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
