School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership graduating nursing students to present capstone projects via WebEx today and tomorrow
The Minnesota State University Moorhead School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership graduating nursing students will present their capstone projects via WebEx Wednesday December 10 (9:30 AM – 5:30 PM) and Thursday December 11 (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM). These presentations will be similar to those given at professional conferences. The projects will showcase the issues students have either encountered while working in the clinical setting or those they have identified through their coursework. They then developed a project proposal designed to address those issues and actually implemented the project in the clinical setting. Students will summarize the development, implementation, and evaluation of their projects which are designed to identify areas of change needed in nursing practice. The overall goal of their projects is to improve the quality and safety of nursing care and ultimately healthcare.
The projects are grounded in the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) core competencies. The QSEN project is a direct result of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report which was released on October 5, 2010. The IOM acknowledged the enormous potential that nurses could make toward providing safer and higher quality patient care. They defined key areas where those changes should occur and the QSEN competencies, which are specific to nursing, are based on that report. The competencies (patient centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics) give nurses the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to make those changes.
The safety and quality of healthcare affects all of us. You are encouraged to come and learn about the ways in which our MSUM baccalaureate nurses have and will make a positive impact in the healthcare care community. Attached you will find a presentation schedule with a brief summary of each. If you are interested in attending any of the sessions, please contact the School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership for a WebEx link.
