Tribal chairwoman among appointees to MnSCU board of trustees
ST. PAUL – The chairwoman of the White Earth Reservation is among six appointees to the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities board of trustees.
Gov. Mark Dayton announced the appointments Thursday.
Erma Vizenor has worked her entire career in education on the White Earth Reservation in northwest Minnesota, where she was first elected chairwoman in 2004. She has a master’s degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead and a doctorate from Harvard.
The 15-member board governs the MnSCU system finances, personnel, tuition and fees, and other regulations. Other appointees include:
— Kelly Carpentier-Berg, Coon Rapids, a student studying psychology at Anoka Technical College and Metro State University.
— Jay Cowles, St. Paul, managing director of Lawrence Creek LLC, a private investment company, and president of Unity Avenue Associates LLC.
— Robert Hoffman, Waseca, recently retired as vice president of strategic business, education and regional partnerships for Minnesota State University, Mankato.
— Maleah Otterson, Chanhassen, a student at Normandale Community College.
— Louise Sundin, Minneapolis, executive vice president of the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, was reappointed. She has a long career as a teacher and leader of teachers unions.
