Straw Hat Players closes with beloved “Fiddler on the Roof”

Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Straw Hat Players Summer Theatre opens its fifth and final show of the summer – “Fiddler on the Roof” – today, July 10. The show repeats tomorrow, July 11; and again July 15 through 18, for a total of six nights on the Hansen Theatre stage.
Fiddler, winner of 10 Tony Awards, debuted in 1965, and immediately became a staple of the musical theatre repertoire. The musical tells the story of Tevye, a poor dairyman in the little village of Anatevka, a tight-knit Jewish community trying to survive changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Memorable songs include “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were A Rich Man,” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker.” Playing the star role of Tevye is Nick Wheeler, son of recently-retired theatre professor David Wheeler.
The musical is rated PG-13 and starts at 7:30 p.m. The July 16 performance includes a signer for the hearing impaired. Tickets are available online at www.mnstate.edu/strawhat, or by calling the MSUM Box Office Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at (218) 477-2271.
