Minimum wage increases July 1

The University student minimum wage will be increased to:

• $8.00 on July 1, 2014
• $9.00 on July 1, 2015
• $9.50 on July 1, 2016

As you know, Social Security and Medicare taxes (7.65%) are NOT withheld from on-campus employment earnings as long as students are enrolled in the required number of credit hours and don’t exceed 30 hours of work per week. With the new minimum wage rates, this is equivalent to students earning $8.66 per hour with an off-campus employer during FY 2015, $9.75 per hour with an off-campus employer during FY 2016, and $10.29 per hour with an off-campus employer during FY 2017.
