Open Forum Schedule for Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Candidates

Three finalists for the position of Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will be holding open forums next week for the MSUM community. The forums are an opportunity to learn more about each finalist and to provide your feedback to the search committee.  All members of the MSUM community are invited to attend. The dean will provide academic leadership and coordination for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and will serve on the President’s Cabinet, the Academic Affairs Council, and other University committees as needed.

 

Dr. Deborah White: Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 3 p.m., Center for Business 111

Dr. Deborah White is a professor in the MSUM Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, and has served as chair since 2008.  Dr. White has also served as Coordinator of the Tri-College National Education for Women’s Leadership Development Institute since 2001.  Dr. White holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of New York at Albany.  Dr. White’s service to the university includes serving as LEAD advisor for the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, and serving on numerous committees including the University Planning and Budget Committee, Dragon Leadership Program, Strategic Planning Work Group, Deficit Reduction Advisory Group, to name a few.   She was recently an invited guest at the White House Conference on Girls’ Leadership and Civic Engagement. Dr. White was nominated for the CASE and Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Professor of the Year award in 2009; in 2008 she received the YWCA of Cass-Clay Women of the Year Award for a Business or Organization that Empowers Women and was nominated and elected by MSUM students as the MSUM Faculty Diversity Ambassador in 2008.

 

Dr. Eric Link: Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11 a.m., King Hall 110

Dr. Eric Link is Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Memphis.  Dr. Link served as Professor and Chair of the Department of English at the University of Memphis from 2008-2013.  Other employment includes Assistant Professor of English and Department Head at North Georgia College and State University.   Dr. Link received a Ph.D. from Purdue University in 19th Century American Literature, and an M.A. from Southwest Missouri State University in English Language and Literature.  Dr. Link was a Fulbright Senior Scholar at University of Fribourg in Fribourg Switzerland in 2011, and at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University in Lutsk Ukraine in 2008.  Honors and Awards include a Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award nominee in 2011, NGCSU Distinguished Professor of Teaching and Learning, and SMSU English Department Outstanding Young Alumnus Award in 2001.

 

Dr. Randy Cagle: Friday, May 9, 2014 at 10 a.m., King Hall 110

Dr. Randy Cagle currently serves as Interim Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at MSUM and is a tenured professor in the MSUM Philosophy Department; he joined the department in 2003. Other university experience includes service as an assistant professor at Humboldt State University and Northern Illinois University, and an adjunct instructor at Shelby State University Community College in Memphis Tennessee.  Dr. Cagle received a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Memphis, and a M.A. in Philosophy from the University of South Carolina.  Dr. Cagle has served on several university, department, and faculty association related committees, including the Task Force on Retention and Graduation Retention Rate Improvement, Dragon Core Review Task Force, and sub-committee co-chair of the Foundations of Excellence Steering Committee. He has also served on a variety of Inter-Faculty Association-related groups and committees, including the Grievance Committee and Faculty Senate.  In 2012 he attended the Council of College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) Seminar for Department Chairs.  Professional memberships include the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences, American Association of University Professors and the American Philosophical Association.
