The Department of Art & Design invites the public to the reception for:
“Malevolent Madames” a solo exhibition by Bertha Vásquez
April 28 – May 16
Reception: Thursday, May 1st from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Roland Dille Center for Arts Gallery (CA 155).
Bertha Vásquez was born in Chimbote, Peru. She obtained her law degree at the Universidad Privada San Pedro, and worked as a clerk in a labor court for two years. In 2008 Vásquez earned a masters degree in Spanish and Latin American Literature at the University of Illinois. After moving to Moorhead, she began studying fine arts earning a BFA in sculpture. Vásquez is currently working towards fulfillment of the requirements for the Certificate in Studio Research at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Her art speaks boldly about her Latina background and political themes. With “Malevolent Madames” Vásquez explores the relationship between dictators and their wives through layered sculptural drawings.
“Breaking the Rules”

Reception: Thursday, May 1st from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Roland Dille Center for Arts Gallery (CA 155).
Breaking the Rules is an exhibition, curated by students in the Exhibitions class at Minnesota State University Moorhead, that pushes boundaries conceptually and visually. Selected artists challenge what constitutes art that is typical of the gallery setting, utilize unconventional materials, process and/or subject matter. The exhibition includes works by Stephanie Garon, Paul Mack, Karen Stone, Corey Escoto, Aron Fischer, Emma Ringness, Christian Donnelly, Samara Kaufman, Justin Playl, Minso Kim, David Willison, and Jessica Teckemeyer.
“Selections from the Collection of Terry Adams”

This exhibition of African masks and sculptures was selected, researched and designed by students in the Exhibitions class at MSUM.
“Mini Madness”

Reception: Thursday, May 1st from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Roland Dille Center for Arts Gallery (CA 155).
“Mini Madness” is an exhibition of miniature artwork created by students and faculty from the department of art & design at MSUM. The exhibition was organized, juried and designed by students in the Exhibitions class. “Mini Madness” is currently on display in the student lounge in Center for the Arts, and will be moved to the gallery (CA 155) for the reception on Thursday. The exhibition includes works by Alex Nelson, Alisha Hagen, Becca Larson, Bethany Larson, Bryanna Ferguson, Caleb Reich, Chia Vang, Chris Alveshere, Clarice Hickman, Dwight Winger, Hannah Amidon, Jacob Hlavsa, Jenny Junker, Jesse Suppa, Jonathan Reich, Jordan Falkum, Jordan Stensgard, Kaitlin Priem, Kayla Hake, Kelli Sinner, Kelsey Williams, Kayla Heidinger, Leah Emery, Mara Bellefeuille, Molly Ueland, Nikki Nilson, Olivia Back, Sam Mathers, Shalene Cole, Trygve Olson.
