North Dakota computer breach may have compromised student information
The North Dakota University System has discovered suspicious activity on a computer server that stored personal information, including social security numbers, of more than 290,000 faculty, staff, and students. It is possible that information about MSUM students who have taken classes through the Tri-College was stored on the server.
“There is no indication that any of the personal information was actually accessed,” said Lisa Feldner, NDUS vice chancellor for information technology and institutional research. “Nevertheless, we are making every effort to inform people of the situation and are taking every possible precaution to safeguard our systems.”
MSUM is in contact with North Dakota officials and will assist in alerting any MSUM students whose records were compromised. NDUS is offering identity protection services for the next 12 months at no cost to those who are known to have been affected.
NDUS has created a web page to share information and will update the site as new information becomes known, http://ndus.edu/data/.
