School of Business team excels in the CFA Research Challenge

A student team from the MSUM School of Business is among four teams out of 9 who entered that were selected to advance to the second stage of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Research Challenge. The first stage consisted of a written report while the second stage will consist of presentations. Team members are Dang Pham, Brenden Forte, Jodie Seelye, and Ryan Bryngelson. Dang, Brenden and Jodie are Finance majors, and Ryan is an Accounting major. Congratulations to the team!

The other three teams will represent University of Minnesota Duluth, University of Minnesota Minneapolis and University of Saint Thomas.  Presentations will take place on February 13, 2014 at Thrivent Headquarters in downtown Minneapolis. The first placed team will compete at the Americas Regional in March 2014.

As of October 2013, the following universities participated in the competition: Minnesota State University Moorhead, Bethel University, North Dakota State University, University of Minnesota Minneapolis, University of Minnesota Duluth, Saint Cloud State University, University of North Dakota, University of Saint Thomas and Minnesota State University Mankato.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a global competition that gives students an opportunity to apply their financial analysis skills and gain valuable practical experience.  Last year over 3,500 students participated in the competition.

Dr. Olgun Sahin served as faculty advisor to the team and Jason Nelson from Bell State Bank and Trust was the team’s industry mentor.
