Art & Design faculty and graduates received awards at Midwestern Invitational Exhibition

Sherry Short's "Small Gifts"

A number of MSUM Art & Design faculty and graduates participated in and received awards in the 54th Midwestern Invitational Exhibition: Signed, Sealed and Delivered.

Sherry Lee Short received First Award for “Small Gifts.”  In the catalog, juror Michael J. Strand, wrote, “This work is masterful in craft, clear in intent with an ingenious psychological edge.”  Torey Garletz, 2013 MSUM BFA graduate with an emphasis in sculpture, received Second Award for his piece, “Package.” Of this piece, Strand wrote, “Garletz’s work plays with scale and context to successfully create a psychological tension that taps into a myriad of fears.”

Other MSUM Art & Design faculty in the exhibition are Kelli Sinner (“Tethered Clouds”), Zhimin Guan (“Alley to Home”), Trygve Olson (“The Midwestern: Homage”), and Carl Oltvedt (“Hues of Spring”).

Their work will be exhibited through Sept. 1 at the The Rourke Art Museum, 521 Main Ave, in Moorhead. Museum hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
