Supporters and fans of the Minnesota State University Moorhead athletic department can mark down the date of April 27 for the 8th Annual Dragon Fire Walk for Athletics, which is one of the largest annual fundraising efforts to raise money for athletic scholarships at MSUM.

Last year’s highly-successful event raised more than $80,000 and this year, another full slate of activities is planned, with the day being capped off by dueling pianos at Alex Nemzek Hall.

“Throughout the years the Dragon Fire Walk has evolved and we are looking forward to another fabulous year.  This event is an opportunity for our friends and alumni to support our scholarship fund,” said Doug Peters, MSUM Athletic Director.

On Saturday, April 27, the day begins at 9 a.m. in Nemzek with the opening ceremony to include honoring our Walk Leaders and other awards. The Ceremonial Walk around campus will begin at 9:30 a.m.

At 10 a.m., the Dragon Splash Dash 5K Fun Run begins at Alex Nemzek Hall.  This is a non-competitive fun run for the young and the young at heart.  At 11:30 a.m., Scorch blows the whistle to start the Youth Fun Run on the MSUM Track.

At 11:30 a.m., the Dragon Grill will open to provide food and refreshments followed by an afternoon of Dragon Alumni games and the Dragon Football Scrimmage at Alex Nemzek Hall.

At 6:30 p.m., the evening event begins with a social in Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse with cash bar and appetizers.  The social is immediately followed by the River Rats Dueling Pianos show.  This is a 21 and older show open to the public. ID is required, and alcoholic beverages will be served in accordance with MnSCU policy 5.18.  This fun-filled evening will also include a silent auction, raffles and a chance to win a timeshare in Cabo San Lucas, VIP WE Fest tickets, and other great prizes!

“Even though the Walk schedule has changed this year, the purpose of this event remains the same – to raise money for Dragon athletic scholarships. The team fundraising concept is the same as past years by creating a team, joining a team and donating to a team at www.dragonwalk.com.  We encourage everyone to join us and support Dragon Athletics.”Gloria Riopelle, MSUM Assistant AD for External Relations.
