MSUM Theatre Arts opens its season

The House of Blue Leaves by John Guare opens MSUM Theatre Arts University Theatre Series this week. Running Wednesday, Oct. 3 through Saturday, Oct. 6, this thought-provoking, dark comedy is about dreams, hope, loss, love, betrayal and fame.

Artie Shaughnessy dreams of being and Academy Award winning songwriter, and is sure his old friend, Hollywood director Billy Einhorn, can help make that happen.  Artie hopes to take his girlfriend, Bunny, to Los Angeles and find a nice place to commit his mentally ill wife, Bananas.  Unexpected visits from Artie’s son, who’s AWOL from the Army, three nuns and Billy’s starlet girlfriend create chaos and threaten to upend Artie’s best laid plans.

Set in 1965, this period piece of theatre won the 1971 Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best American Play, and the Obie Award for Best American Play.

All MSUM students receive free tickets, and MSUM faculty and staff receive tickets at a reduced rate.
