Help Sonia win her fight against leukemia
Sonia Rai, 24, was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML), which is a cancer of the blood. Her diagnosis caught her family and friends by surprise and there is an urgent need to act quickly and find a bone marrow match for her. Sonia is currently undergoing intense chemotherapy and receiving excellent care at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
The Minneapolis/St. Paul office of National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) is helping with a drive to recruit members for ‘Be the Match Registry’. The drive has been scheduled to be held at the Peace Garden Room in the Memorial Union of North Dakota State University (NDSU) from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday January 29, 2011. We request you to register and give Sonia and others like her a chance to win their fight against Leukemia.
The registration is open to all but Indo-Americans or those with Pacific Islander heritage may provide a match for Sonia. Also, even if you do not provide a match for Sonia you may help someone else who is in need of a donation. Registering is very simple and does not require a blood test! Getting registered requires a simple, non-invasive cheek swab (2 minutes of your time) and filling out some forms (5 minutes of your time). Moreover, there is no cost or fee for you to register.
