Upcoming Book Talk Events
Two book talk events are planned for Spring Semester. We hope you find these titles interesting and can join us for some lively discussion.
Enhancing learning through formative assessment and feedback by Alastair Irons will be Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in CMU 203.
Looking for some ideas about applying theory to practice when it comes to assessment and feedback? This excellent book uses scenarios and case studies to create a framework and to provide strategies for promoting student engagement. Irons’ book is part of Key Guides for Effective Teaching in Higher Education Series.
Presenters: Elizabeth Kirchoff, English and Becky Theisen, School for Teaching and Learning.
Earth in Mind: On education, environment, and the human prospect by David Orr will be Wednesday, February 9, 2011 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in CMU 207.
Well-regarded environmental educator David Orr focuses not on problems in education, but on the problem of education. He asks us to consider how education alienates us from life in the name of human domination, overemphasizes success and career preparation, and deadens the sense of wonder for the created world. If you are looking for an intriguing and challenging discussion, join us for this book talk. (from Product Description)
Presenters: Denny Jacobs, Corrick Center and Karen Branden, Sociology.
THE FIRST SEVERAL FACULTY WHO CONTACT STEVE GRINESKI (grineski@mnstate.edu or 2017) AND AGREE TO ATTEND THE EVENT WILL RECEIVE A FREE COPY OF THE BOOK. PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH BOOK YOU ARE INTERESTED IN RECEIVING.
