Write Site needs tutors
Do you enjoy writing? Do you plan to enter a teaching profession or are you thinking about going to graduate school? If so, please consider tutoring in the Write Site. Prospective tutors normally enroll during the spring semester in ENGL 395, a 3 credit-hour writing intensive course. Write Site tutors are then chosen from those who successfully complete the course. In ENGL 395 we will discuss theories of conference and one-on-one teaching strategies; in addition, students in the course will have opportunities to both observe and conduct tutoring sessions. The course meets twice a week during the first seven weeks and then once a week for the remainder of the semester so that students will have time to lead tutorials in the Write Site.
This course is especially relevant for prospective secondary teachers. It could also be very valuable if you intend to go on to graduate school and would like to apply for a teaching assistantship. While English majors are encouraged to register for ENGL 395, we also hope effective writers from other majors will also register. That’s because the Write Site works with students from a very diverse cross-section of the university and it is great if our writing consultants come from similarly diverse fields and disciplines. The Write Site will need writing consultants starting as early as this summer, and then certainly into next fall and beyond. The pay is competitive and you’ll be tutoring in a brand new space in Lommen Hall. If you have questions or want to learn more, please contact Dr. McCord at 5860 or mccordm@mnstate.edu.
