Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that employees are knowledgeable about the resources they are provided. This session serves as a refresher for all supervisors on board policies and system procedures regarding credits cards, cell phones, and expense reimbursement. Intended audience: supervisors, business officers, finance and human resources staff. January 13, 2011—Discrimination Complaints: Understanding the Institution’s Role in Responding to Office for Civil Rights, Minnesota Department of Human Rights and EEOC Charges
Intended audience: human resources directors, affirmative action officers and investigators, student affairs professionals, and others who assist in responding to such claims.
Learn about each of these agencies’ jurisdiction and how to work effectively with legal counsel to respond to these administrative claims.
February 1—Study Abroad Programs
Intended audience: academic and student affairs staff, faculty and others involved with study abroad programs.
This session is intended to offer guidance and resources for managing risk in international study travel, including contractual issues, releases, notices, etc.
March 10—Contract Issues: Professional Technical Services Contracts
Intended audience: business officers, finance staff, administrators and others with responsibility for professional/technical contracts.
This session will focus on P/T contracts, use of system template and standard language, intellectual property issues and alternatives, as well as best practices tips and reminders.
April 1—Minors on Campus: Study Abroad, Camps, PSEO, When Background Checks are Required, and More
Intended audience: academic and student affairs staff, human resources staff.
Minors participate in a wide variety of programs on our campuses, such as day care centers, athletic camps, admissions visits, and PSEO. This session will survey the legal issues that apply to programs that serve minors and suggest best practices. We will discuss background checks of employees and considerations involved with transporting minors, hosting minors in residence halls or study abroad, and drafting waivers or exculpatory agreements.

September 9—Politics on Campus
A refresher for student services staff, faculty, administrators and others regarding issues that arise on campus in the election season. Government Relations Director Mary Davenport and General Counsel Gail Olson discuss engaging the campus community in election-related activities and avoiding legal pitfalls.
October 14—Student Conduct Primer: Law, Policy, and Procedure
Assistant General Counsel Scott Goings presents a primer for conduct officers and other student affairs professionals focused on law, policy, and process affecting student conduct procedures.
November 10—Customized Training: Doing the Deal
This session involves issues that can arise in customized training, including confidentiality agreements, contract pitfalls, and ethics issues. Intended audience – customized training deans, faculty and staff, human resources and finance staff. Presented by Assistant General Counsel Mary Al Balber and Assistant Attorney General Greg Huwe.
