Russian scientist to give anthrax lecture Sept. 27
Dr. Igor Shemyakin will be speaking at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 27 in Hagen 207. His topic will be “What is Obolensk?” Obolensk was the premier biological weapons research and development institute in Russia. Shemyakin will be speaking on its current and future use.
In addition, Shemyakin will give a lecture on anthrax to the BIOL 350, Microbiology class, at 11:30 a.m. that Monday, in Science Lab 118. All are welcome to attend this lecture as well.
Shemyakin is the Executive Deputy Director of the State Research Center for Applied Microbiology, Obolensk, Russia. His field of expertise includes molecular microbiology and molecular epidemiology. He is a co-collaborator with Dr. Charlie Stoltenow from Animal Sciences at North Dakota State University in the selection of efficient peptide substrates for anthrax lethal factor.
