Ellis Island portraits on display at Hjemkomst Center

The Historical & Cultural Society of Clay County at the Hjemkomst Center is
proud to present Augustus Frederick Sherman: Ellis Island Portraits, 1905-1920, a traveling exhibit courtesy of Aperture Foundation and Statue of Liberty National Monument/Ellis Island Immigration Museum. Sherman was an immigration agent who captured images of new immigrants entering the United States for the first time through Ellis Island. The exhibit consists of 75 portraits, many in traditional cultural dress. The exhibit will be supplemented with Clay County immigration artifacts. This exhibit is on display June 4 through Sept. 12, 2010.
