Integrate writing, critical thinking, and active learning PLUS get FREE BOOKS
Posted on September 30, 2009
Learn about integrating writing, critical thinking, and active learning PLUS get FREE BOOKS at the Book Talk Event on Monday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. in CMU 203.
The featured book: “Engaging teaching: The professor’s guide to integrating writing, critical thinking, and active learning in the classroom” by John Bean, Professor of English, Writing Program Director, and Chair of the University Task Force on Teaching and Learning at Seattle University.
Bean’s premier work uses various writing and thinking strategies to transform students from passive learners to more active learners, while deepening their understanding for the subject matter.
Kevin Zepper, Corrick Center and Theresa Hest, Communication Studies, will talk about the book’s ideas and how to use them in your classroom. Students are always welcome.
The first six faculty to contact Steve Grineski, grineski@mnstate.edu, and agree to attend this event will receive a free copy of the book. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR CAMPUS MAILING ADDRESS.
About the book:
“Engaging Ideas surprised me. I didn’t expect to like it, but I really did. I didn’t expect to find so much in it that would cause me to pause and reflect on my own practices as a teacher, but this is exactly what happened repeatedly. I didn’t expect to find the writing so sprightly and attention-holding, but it was. And I didn’t expect that I would decide to change the nature of the writing assignments I give students as a result of this book, but I have…An excellent resource for faculty across all disciplines who long for ways of improving student writing and thinking skills.” – Howard B. Altman, director, Linguistics Program, University of Louisville

Unfortunately, the Word Press program we are using doesn’t always work properly. So, if you don’t get an email each morning (M-F) from Dragon Digest, you can always go to the Dragon Digest page and find out what has been posted for the day.
