TCU Film Library to Close December 2009

The Tri-College Film Library, which has served MSUM, NDSU, and Concordia for over 30 years, will be closed at the end of Fall semester, 2009. This was a budgetary decision from the Tri-College Commissioners and approved by the TCU Board in late Spring, 2009.

The materials are being divided between the three colleges based upon use. We are still working through how these videos and DVDs will be accessed by faculty for their instructional needs and also how to fund purchasing of a limited number of items that were used by more than one campus, where we may now want to have our own MSUM campus copy.  We know that many titles were used by more than one campus, so faculty will make use of the library’s inter-library loan service to initiate delivery.  The titles will be in each institution’s online catalog and accessible for Spring 2010.We are taking this semester to come up with a process and how to fund future video purchases for classroom instructional use.

With the loss of the position of TCU Library Technician, Jane Krajeck, and because the Library has one frozen staff position as part of the university’s cost-saving measures, the Library is trying to come up with a cost-efficient and effective way to get these materials to faculty when they need them.  I assure you that we will do the best we can and are exploring several scenarios.

Jane will be working on projects for the MSUM and NDSU libraries this spring before retiring in late spring.  We will definitely miss the services of the TCU Film Library and Jane Krajeck.
