Film students participate in S.D. film festival
MSUM Film Studies played a major part in this year’s South Dakota Film Festival. Last weekend the Film Studies department, including professors Anthony Adah, Raymond Rea, Tom Brandau, staff member Mike Stromenger and 43 students, attended the three-day festival held in Aberdeen. The festival included several screenings, equipment demonstrations and workshops including a Saturday morning round table discussion with Academy Award-winning actor/director Kevin Costner.
The hour-long event took place on the stage of the Capitol Theatre with Costner surrounded by approximately 80 students, over half of which were from MSUM.
Costner attended the festival in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the release of “Dances With Wolves” which was shot almost entirely in South Dakota.
This was the most successful year to date for MSUM Film Studies at the SDFF with 10 films in competition.
