Economy cited as reason enrollment is up at area community colleges

Enrollment at area community colleges is up this fall, with officials citing the economy as the main reason more students are headed to the classroom. Minnesota State Community and Technical College has 5,802 students taking classes on the four campuses or on the Internet, a 3.8 percent increase over the 5,590 students enrolled last year at this time, said Carrie Brimhall, dean of enrollment.

Minnesota Learning Commons offers new online resource

A new online resource was unveiled today that will expand learning options for students, provide more resources for educators and assist parents and advisors in guiding young people on their educational path. The Website, Minnesota Learning Commons (www.mnlearningcommons.org.), is a collaboration of the Minnesota Department of Education, the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, and the University of Minnesota.

Parking Update

This is a reminder that 2009-2010 MSUM parking permits are being sold in the CMU, room 216, through 8/28/2009. Our hours are from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm while at the CMU. Beginning at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26, permits may also be purchased at the Security Building, 1616 9th Avenue South. Parking is being monitored in all Faculty/Staff lots at this time and we will begin monitoring all the other lots on Monday, August 31.

MnPALS Down Aug. 28

The library’s online system, MnPALS, will be down from 5 p.m. on Friday, August 28 until approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, August 31. There will be a slight interruption in library services during this time.
